How we calculate environmental performance

To establish its carbon footprint, Kuoni uses the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), the most widely used international accounting tool for greenhouse gas emissions quantification and management, developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). We have established the environmental impact of the operations of all Outbound Europe Division as well as Outbound India and China according to Scope 1 and 2 of the GHG Protocol. Electricity consumption, catalogue and paper consumption as well as  business travel has been calculated, these being of greatest significance in terms of fossil fuel use for Kuoni’s operations. Besides carbon dioxide emissions, methane and nitrous oxide emissions were incorporated into the footprint due to business travel according to the methodology used by myclimate. Emissions are thus reported as CO2 equivalents. Emission factors for electricity consumption are based on internationally recognised data such as those provided by International Energy Agency Data Services (2006).
